Is the best learn French method a complete immersion in a French country? Do you believe this? This is what we are going to demonstrate in this article.

A long time ago, the best method to learn French was to spend some time directly in France, Canada or Switzerland.

Today, the Internet is a powerful way to learn French effectively, and you don’t need to spend all this money. You know, airfare, hotels, meals, etc…

You can now become fluent in French (and any other language by the way) without moving from your sweet home! How cool is that?

Let’s compare three different methods…

The first one is your local community class. There are two main disadvantages:

a. Obviously, no native speaker is present in the class..

b. it may be an expensive course

The second method to learn French is a complete immersion

Many people claim that it is the absolute best way to learn a foreign language?

I don’t think so. I’ve seen this in many countries where people speak different languages, and this doesn’t make any difference.

And very often, those who are stronger in the language spent less time in the country and speak better!

The real problem is your “teacher”. If you have the right teacher, it doesn’t matter where you are located, you will speak well, no matter the language you are trying to learn.

Another method (I like it) is phone conversations with a native French speaker (via skype for example)

Bottom line is that if you are really motivated, and you have the real teacher, it doesn’t matter where you are learning French.

Do you want to learn beginner French but don’t know where to start? Many people who want to learn the French language want to learn it easily and quickly, without spending a lot of money. There are lots of programs to help you learn the French language but without knowing how to choose the right program, chances are, you will have great difficulty mastering the French accent, which is crucial to speaking French properly.

Here’s some things you should know about beginner French before you buy any kind of software or take French classes, either online or from your college.

1. The French language might be the easiest to learn in some respects, but it can be difficult to master.  One crucial element to learning beginner French is to choose a reputable program to learn French, not just any free online course that claims to teach you French in less than a week.

2. Beginner French involves learning each sound in the French language.  Not every French syllable has an English equivalent, so be prepared to learn new sounds as you begin your journey through French.  Also, make sure you do not use written English pronunciations in American English-to-French dictionaries and travel helps; these generally tend to teach you improper pronunciation, which could lead to some very embarrassing conversations on your behalf!

3. Learn beginner French from experts.  “Experts” include anyone who has lived in France and spoken the language a long time, was born and raised speaking French, either in France or other French-speaking countries, or someone who has successfully mastered the language and the accent.  In other words, instead of buying the latest “French for Dummies” edition a writer who may or may not be proficient at actually speaking French, you might want to consider an audio CD or software to better achieve a proper accent and mastery of French words.

If you want to learn beginner French, you’ve probably looked into several French products, software programs, and audio CD’s to help you get a solid understanding of the language and develop a proper accent.  While there are many great program to help you learn French, I’d like to help you pick just the right program for your learning style and ability before you go wasting several hundred dollars on a program that won’t work for you.

Here are my top three favorite French programs to learn beginner French.  Each of these provide a great way to begin learning French without having any real prior knowledge of the language.

1. Rosetta Stone French: Rosetta Stone loves to tout how diplomats, the Peace Corps, and astronauts all learn a foreign language by using their program.  But can all of us normal people learn French from Rosetta Stone?  The answer is yes.  Rosetta Stone French is one of the most in-depth language learning courses available, as it includes  several multimedia methods to learn the language.

The drawback: The price.  Rosetta Stone is probably the number one most expensive language program in the world.  It ranges from a few hundred dollars to begin with to a whopping $1,000 for all-encompassing program.

2. Pimsleur French: Pimsleur is another reputable program for learning French.  Though it is mostly marketed to people outside the U.S., Pimsleur can be used anywhere in the world to learn a different language.  Like Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur also has different levels of teaching, starting from a simple one-lesson course, mainly for travel purposes, up to a more in-depth course.  It is much less expensive than Rosetta Stone as well.

The drawback: There are only audio CD’s and booklets for this program; it’s not a software that you can interact with.  However, this makes it a better option to listen to in the car.

3. Rocket French: Rocket French is perhaps my favorite French course to learn from.  The dialogue is easy to pick up, and they give plenty of real-life examples to use when learning.  Like Pimsleur, it is mostly audio-based, but that’s okay, because you will still learn this way regardless of no interactive software.  The price is somewhere in between Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone, while being much, much less money than Rosetta Stone, even for the full audio CD set.

Anybody else remember dull old French lessons, endlessly repeating words to a teacher with an accent that didn’t remotely resemble the language? Thank goodness we don’t have to do that any more! I guess they meant well, but it wasn’t exactly the best way to learn French!

These days we have so much more choice – and French lessons are so much more entertaining. What’s more, with French MP3s – which are provided with most software to learn French – we can hear exactly how we are supposed to sound (even if our own accents are could do with a bit more practice!).

If learning to speak French is something you are interested in, you now have a terrific amount of choice. You can start with a free French lesson online and progress to interactive French downloads, software programs, CDs or DVDs. There are dozens of alternatives, from a few dollars to a few hundred. It’s a fortunate position to be in.

But given the choice, what is the best way to learn French?

Well, free is good – most of us like free – and there are great glimpses of the French language to be had if you use your favorite search engine and look for free French lessons. In some cases you will find you are overwhelmed with adverts before you can actually find the lesson, but if that’s the case just move on to the next result. A bit of a nuisance perhaps, but what can you expect for free? If you persevere you will find plenty of sites with good content.

When you want to take on the challenge of learning to speak fluent French you’ll be delighted to know that it won’t be anything like as hard as it used to be! You will need to invest a few dollars, but again, nothing like the price you would expect to pay for private French lessons. The cheaper options are OK for a beginner level, but if you want to learn properly then you’ll get much more out of a complete course. Something that will take you from beginner to accomplished French speaker. You won’t get frustrated by finding you have to keep on buying more CDs or DVDs either, which you might if you start with something too simple.

Top level French language software can be several hundred dollars – and some of those don’t even have a French person as the teacher! When you can get a French download that will take you from basics to a high level of skill for around a third of the price, it’s certainly an option worth considering.
